Welcome

I’m Carrie Lou Hamilton – author, editor, researcher and translator based in London.

I write nonfiction that explores the relationship between history, political activism and social change. I’m the author of Veganism, Sex and Politics: Tales of Danger and Pleasure, articles on feminism, drugs, animals, queer community, oral history and revolutionary movements, and academic books on Spanish and Cuban history. I taught history and gender studies in UK universities for two decades and am currently Senior Visiting Fellow in the Department of Gender Studies at the London School of Economics.

I specialise in editing and translating scholarly texts in the humanities and social sciences, academic writing aimed at non-specialist readers, and general and creative nonfiction. I offer substantive and developmental editing as well as copyediting and proofreading for academics, PhD students, other writers and publishers. I am fully bilingual and have worked across Spanish and English for over thirty years. I’ve translated books, academic articles and short fiction from Spanish to English.

I also offer research, teaching and workshops in my areas of expertise. For details, see Services. Contact me to discuss how we can work together.
